Downtown Rock Springs Is Accessible

Last Updated 7/30/2020

It Was Time For a Change - Sadly, it wasn't until 1990 when the U.S. government started paying more attention to the needs of Americans with disabilities. A clearer interpretation of disabilities was needed. Those with disabilities needed protection from discrimination - after all, they have the same right to appreciate the same services as those without disabilities.

Stuck At Home - Before the 90's, citizens with disabilities felt they had no choice but to stay home because buses weren't built for wheelchairs. Restaurants refused to serve a person with disabilities because "there was no room for them" or "they were a hazard." Grocery stores were even preventing them from buying merchandise because business owners thought they were a "big hassle."

Better Days - Now, disabled individuals can enjoy goods, services, facilities, priviledges, advantages or accommodations of any place in our communities just as much as those who are not disabled.

Businesses such as Roadhouse 307, Coal Train Coffee Depot, Rushmore Furniture, Community Fine Arts Center, Rock Springs Library, Pla-Mor Lanes and Broadway Theater and others offer accessible parking and ramps in front of entrances.

So, explore Downtown Rock Springs and find out how easy it is to have a fun-filled day in our tight-knit business neighborhood!
