Square State Brewing Named August Business of the Month
The Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency (URA) is pleased to recognize Square State Brewing, 422 S. Main Street, as the August 2026 Business of the Month.
Located in the heart of Downtown Rock Springs, Square State Brewing has become much more than a place to grab a locally brewed beer. Owners Cassandra Vincelette and Mike Hulen have created a welcoming gathering place that brings people together, supports fellow small businesses and continually finds creative new ways to contribute to the community.
Each month, the Rock Springs Main Street/URA Economic Vitality Committee reviews nominations using a scoring rubric designed to evaluate businesses on several factors, including their investment in Downtown, customer service, community involvement, partnerships and collaborations, innovation and creativity, and overall contribution to the vitality of Downtown Rock Springs.
Square State Brewing stood out across those categories.
Creating Downtown's "Third Place"
One of Square State Brewing's greatest contributions is its role as a true "third place" — a welcoming space outside of home and work where people can gather, connect and build community.
Since opening its doors, Square State has intentionally worked to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and inclusive, whether customers stop in for a beer after work, meet friends for the evening, participate in an event or simply spend some time Downtown.
“Being named Business of the Month is a huge honor,” said co-owner Cassandra Vincelette. “Downtown Rock Springs is our community, our neighbors, and our home. Events, Partnerships and Creativity
Square State has also embraced the idea that a small business can help create activity well beyond its own front door.
The brewery regularly hosts creative events and activities that give people another reason to come Downtown, while frequently collaborating with other local businesses, organizations, food vendors and community partners. Those partnerships not only enhance the experience at Square State, but also help introduce customers to other locally owned businesses and keep dollars circulating within the community.
That collaborative spirit, coupled with Square State's willingness to experiment with new ideas and programming, was another factor that scored highly with the Business of the Month committee.
“Square State is a great example of what we mean when we talk about a business contributing to the overall vitality of Downtown,” said Rock Springs Main Street/URA Manager Chad Banks. “They haven't simply opened their doors and waited for customers to come in. They create experiences, partner with other businesses and continually look for new ways to bring people together. That kind of creativity and collaboration benefits the entire Downtown.”
A $20,000 Investment in What's Next
That creativity is now expanding into a new venture.
Square State Brewing was recently selected to receive a $20,000 grant through an American Express small-business grant program. The funding helped the owners kick-start their next project: Pie Squared, a mobile pizza trailer expected to open in early September.
Pie Squared will serve artisan brick-oven pizza, featuring fresh dough and sauce made in-house. Pizza will be available on-site at Square State Brewing as well as through delivery, giving the brewery an opportunity to expand its offerings while creating another locally owned food option for Rock Springs.
Square State is currently preparing the trailer for its debut, with a grand opening date to be announced soon.
The new venture represents the same entrepreneurial spirit the Business of the Month program is intended to recognize — reinvesting in the business, responding creatively to customer needs and continuing to build something new in Downtown Rock Springs.

The Rock Springs Main Street/URA Business of the Month program recognizes businesses that contribute to the economic and social vitality of Downtown Rock Springs. Businesses are nominated by members of the public and evaluated by the organization's Economic Vitality Committee using an established scoring rubric.
