Artists Asked to Retrieve Artwork from Art Underground Gallery in Downtown Rock Springs
The Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency (URA) will soon issue a call for new artwork for the Art Underground Gallery, located in the pedestrian underpass in Downtown Rock Springs. The previous exhibition—the fifth round of artwork displayed in the gallery—has recently been removed to make way for a new installation.
Artists who previously had work displayed in the Art Underground Gallery and wish to have their pieces returned are asked to contact the URA office at 307-352-1434 by April 1 to arrange pickup or request that their artwork be held. Any artwork not picked up or reserved by that date will be recycled for use in the gallery’s sixth round of exhibits.
The Art Underground Gallery first debuted in the fall of 2015 and has since become a unique and evolving public art space in Downtown Rock Springs.
“We’re excited to begin the next chapter of the gallery,” said Rock Springs Main Street/URA Board Chair Maria Mortensen. “Each new round of artwork brings fresh creativity and energy to the underpass while giving local and regional artists a chance to showcase their work in a public setting.”
The official Call for Artists will be released later in March. At that time, a limited number of primed 2-by-4-foot plywood canvases will be available free of charge for participating artists. Because supplies are limited, canvases will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all canvases have been claimed, additional entries cannot be accepted.
The new 2026 installation of the Art Underground Gallery is scheduled to be unveiled in May and will remain on display through spring 2028.
