My Own Downtown - Heidi Yaklich

Last Updated 12/16/2021

Knitting is a hobby that could be a perfect antidote to our anxiety these days. It reduces stress, depression and can even help us control the urge to overeat. The repetitive and rhythmic movements of knitting are similar to meditation. Once knitting is learned, knitting can be as relaxing as yoga.
According to Heidi Yaklich, Owner of The Yarn and the Tale, she was inspired to open a local yarn shop (LYS) by her “decades-long love affair with yarn, knitting and all things fiber related.”
“I want to provide the local community a place to learn, explore and enjoy the heritage crafts of knitting/crocheting and to be able to shop hands-on at a local business in order to support the local economy,” Heidi expressed.
One of Heidi’s favorite places in Downtown is the Rock Springs Historical Museum; in fact, she was a member of the museum board a few years ago.
“I enjoyed learning some of the local history,” she said. Heidi added, “I have always loved the vibe of the Downtown area in any city I’ve been to.”
The Downtown scenery and sounds throughout the day captures Heidi’s heart.
“I am happy I can hear the chimes of the clock tower and the music during the holidays,” she shared. “I love watching the ever-changing sky as a backdrop to the clock tower.”
Heidi feels fortunate to be among the well-established and new businesses in our Downtown area.
“When a community supports its’ small businesses, the local economy is fortified,” she pointed out. “This in turn creates a thriving downtown, which will draw more shoppers/diners, new businesses and innovative progress.”
In her eyes, when the going gets tough, Downtown gets tougher.
“The future looks bright from my perspective,” Heidi said. “I've witnessed several new businesses open recently, mine included.”
Heidi concluded by saying, “In the face of current events, it is inspiring to see people still taking a risk to follow their passion.” …And that’s why Downtown Rock Springs is My Own Downtown.
