My Own Downtown - Heather Marsh

Last Updated 12/16/2021

Local resident, Heather Marsh is proud to call Rock Springs home all of her life. She has been married to the love of her life, Damian, for almost 29 years. They have two sons, Chandler and Kaden.

“Our family has expanded with one daughter-in-law, Brittnay and two precious grandchildren, Kaysen and MaciLynn,” Heather shared.

Heather has been working in Downtown as the Chief of Police's Assistant for almost 24 years.

“I feel honored to be able to work with the men and women of our local law enforcement,” Heather expressed.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, crafting and spending as much time in the beautiful outdoors of Wyoming.

According to Heather, Downtown Rock Springs is the main trunk of our city with all of the other areas of the City branches coming off it.

“There are a lot of great restaurants and shops in Downtown where I find unique gifts for family and friends,” Heather said. “Since I work in Downtown, it’s nice to be able to have coffee shops, restaurants and stores within walking distance.”

The most valuable business lessons some people will ever learn won’t come from college or an online course; sometimes they come from working in a family business.

Heather’s grandfather operated a small business, Leo’s Jewelry, in Downtown for his entire career until he retired.

“My grandfather was a true craftsman,” she revealed. “I loved it when he had a cuckoo clock or a grandfather clock in his shop to repair.”

She added, “The citizens of Rock Springs supported his business which allowed him to support his family.”

Heather always enjoyed going into his shop. She and her mother helped out at the jewelry store from time to time when she was younger.

By the eighties, it was Heather’s turn to work.

“My sisters and I worked there on Saturdays, once we were in our early teenage years,” Heather said.

Duties in her grandfather’s shop included cleaning and assisting the customers.

“Once he was done working, he’d always order us a pizza from the Toastmaster,” she beamed.

“Whenever there was a parade Downtown, we always had the perfect spot because we sat in front of his store,” Heather recalled.

Other fond memories Heather has are when her mother and grandmother took her  school shopping, eating at the New Grand Cafe and watching movies at the Rock or Cinema theaters, just to name a few.

Knowing the pride Heather’s grandfather had for his business, she knows it’s important now more than ever for locals and visitors to support small businesses.

“I would encourage citizens to take the time to explore Downtown to see what it has to offer,” she suggested. “Take a moment to walk through the shops, attend a Main Street Market or grab a bite to eat and listen to the local talent.”

Heather went on to say, “There are a lot of great activities being hosted Downtown, take a moment to enjoy some of them.”

For over 30 years, Heather has witnessed many changes in Downtown. She is thrilled to see what comes next.

“I see Downtown thriving,” Heather said. “There are a lot of great things going on Downtown and I am always excited to see something new in the area.”

…And that’s why Downtown Rock Springs is My Own Downtown.
