Broadway Theater Event Raises $600 for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Rock Springs Main Street/URA Matches Audience Tips to Support Early Childhood Literacy
A night celebrating the music of Dolly Parton at the Broadway Theater turned into a meaningful contribution to early childhood literacy in Southwest Wyoming.
Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency (URA) recently presented a $600 donation to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, operated locally by United Way of Southwest Wyoming. The funds were raised during the September 25 performance of 9 to 5: Dolly Tribute in The Loft at the Broadway Theater.
Throughout the evening, audience members contributed $300 in tips, which Rock Springs Main Street/URA matched dollar for dollar, bringing the total donation to $600.
"Dolly Parton is known not only for her incredible music but also for her commitment to putting books into the hands of children," said Danielle Wilson, Broadway Theater coordinator. "We thought it was only fitting that an evening celebrating Dolly's music could also support one of her most meaningful initiatives. Our audience really stepped up, and we were happy our board was able to double their generosity."
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a free book-gifting program that mails age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age five, regardless of family income. The program helps foster a love of reading, strengthen early literacy skills, and encourage families to read together.
Locally, United Way of Southwest Wyoming administers the program, helping ensure children throughout the region have access to books during their earliest years.
"One of the things we love about the Broadway Theater is its ability to bring people together," Wilson added. "Whether it's through live performances, community partnerships, or opportunities to give back, we're always looking for ways to make the theater an even greater asset to our community. This was a fun and simple way to do just that."
The Broadway Theater, operated by Rock Springs Main Street/URA, hosts a variety of live performances, concerts, community events, and special programs throughout the year. The Loft, the theater's intimate upstairs lounge, provides a unique setting for smaller performances and special experiences.
