Meet the Snowman Stroll artists - Shari Kumer
Artist Biography:
Shari Kumer is local artist, born and raised in Rock Springs, WY. She earned a BS in Art from the University of Wyoming in 1988. Ms. Kumer has been teaching art in Sweetwater County for over twenty years.
Artist Statement:
I often draw or paint in a whimsical style, but with animals and flowers as a recurring theme. I had just finished a project with a honeycomb and bee and when the snowman forms came up, the overall form reminded me of a fat bee. It was my sister who suggested “A Bee in Her Bonnet” and since we both enjoy puns, I decided to go with that idea.
The hardest part of creating the bee was fabricating the bonnet and wings so they could withstand our harsh climate. I used thick aluminum and fabric with fiberglass resin, then protected the entire sculpture with clear-coat (a huge thank you to Rock Springs Auto Body!)
