Lightwire Theater’s The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare

Lightwire Theater’s The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare: The Next Gen is a visually captivating, wordless theatrical experience that reimagines Aesop’s timeless fable through a modern lens.

Combining electroluminescent (EL) wire puppetry, dynamic choreography, innovative lighting, and an eclectic musical score ranging from classical masterworks to modern pop, the production brings glowing, animated characters to life in complete darkness.

Designed for audiences of all ages, this 55-minute production seamlessly blends dazzling visual spectacle with heartfelt, poignant storytelling about family connection, modern technology, and unity.

The Classic Fable... Ten Years Later
The performance begins with the iconic story everyone knows: the slow-and-steady Tortoise triumphing over the boastful, overconfident Hare. However, the narrative quickly jumps ten years into the future, where Tortoise and Hare are now parents navigating adulthood and family life.

A New Kind of Race
Their children, Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare, find themselves thrust into a whole new kind of race—one defined by modern distractions. In an era dominated by smartphones, tablets, and video games, the younger generation struggles with lost connections to meaningful real-world experiences.

Uniting to Save the Next Generation
When their children’s adventures lead them into unexpected and perilous territory, Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must set aside their long-standing rivalry. Together, the two former competitors forge an unexpected partnership to rescue their kids, overcoming modern-day hurdles, technology traps, and obstacles to reach the ultimate finish line.
